Mercy and Diaconal Policy
The means of help provided at Heritage Presbyterian Church (HPC) is a biblically based ministry of reconciliation, accountability, and restoring relationships. Based on 2 Corinthians 5:17-20,
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God was making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.
The Church believes that the proper way to alleviate a hardship is not through a quick fix offered by monetary handouts. It is HPC’s practice to provide an ongoing relational approach, holistic in nature to alleviate the hardship and suffering of individuals in need. Hardship is rooted in broken relationships beginning first with God then flowing down to family, loved ones, and neighbors. It’s our goal and belief that by restoring each individual’s broken relationship through the ministry of reconciliation, faith, repentance and the power of the gospel, we will alleviate the cause of suffering, hardship, and the needs of each individual.
It is our experience that a lasting solution is best presented by a gospel centered community. It is our hope and desire to help you rebuild a strong community beginning with your relationship first to God, then flowing down to your family, loved ones, and neighbors.
We actively support and participate in several local “mercy ministries” as we seek to follow the command and example of Jesus to love our neighbor.
